Job opportunities created in Housekeeping and Accommodation Management
313 new jobs, apprenticeships and work experience opportunities were pledged at the Big Hospitality Conversation to celebrate Springboard’s Housekeeping Festival – A Day to Sparkle.
Housekeeping professionals, from across London came together to pledge career opportunities, apprenticeships and work placements for students and young job seekers looking to get into a career in Housekeeping at the Big Hospitality Conversation held at The Dorchester.
Top businesses including ISS, Browns Hotel and WGC attended the event, pledging live throughout the day alongside Springboard’s CareerScope team who were on hand to offer practical employability advice and guidance on gaining relevant qualifications, interview techniques and career choices.
Sam Coulstock, Head of Special Projects, Springboard said: “Unemployment in London remains high amongst young people and in order to combat it, businesses need to inspire them at an early stage about careers in the great world of hospitality.”
“This is why Springboard’s Housekeeping Careers Festival – a Day to Sparkle – aims to work with the hospitality industry to help change perceptions of careers in Housekeeping and Accommodation management as well as creating and generating employment opportunities for students and young job seekers, and the Big Hospitality Conversation is a great platform to do so.”
The Big Hospitality Conversation enabled hospitality businesses to recruit candidates immediately. WGC recruited 85 students and job seekers and ISS took on candidates for work experience.
“During the Big Hospitality Conversation we had a chance to engage with a variety people who were interested in a career in the hospitality industry. This is where we met a very enthusiastic young lady called Randelle Maynard, she explained that she would love to work in hospitality but no one had given her a chance. She completed 2 weeks work experience and got offered a position as a Guest Room Attendant. She wouldn’t have been given the break she needed without Springboard’s Housekeeping Festival – A Day to Sparkle.” Said Philip Steiner, ISS.
The British Hospitality Association’ Big Hospitality Conversation has brought together more than 2,000 business to provide a platform to recruit and offer job and apprentice opportunities for young people through the careers event. It also creates a dialogue between industry leaders and job seekers/students.
Together it has created 43,300 apprenticeships, jobs and work experiences for 16-24 year olds with the goal of generating 60,000 opportunities by the end of next year.
Key sponsors and partners are ISS, WGC, Casna group, UKHA and BHA.
